This Trail, when completed, will be a continuous trail utilizing over 150 miles of abandoned railroad right-of-way. Phase one is scheduled to be completed in 2008 in the communities of Lawrenceville, Brodnax, and LaCrosse. The Tobacco Heritage Trail is governed by a multi-jurisdictional board, Roanoke River Rails to Trails, a 501(c)3 organization. RRRT desires that the trail not only be used for recreation, but as a source of learning about nature and wildlife, community pride, and economic development. The trail will have interpretive signage explaining cultural aspects of the region. The corridor will be preserved through the conservation easements allowed by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
